Refrigerator Dinner Rolls

Refrigerator Dinner Rolls

Hot, buttery dinner rolls are a “must-have” for Thanksgiving, but in between the cooking and cleaning, it’s almost impossible to find the time to make homemade rolls.

This is where Refrigerator Dinner Rolls come to the rescue. Simply prepare the dough several days ahead of time, then bake fresh rolls in minutes while the turkey is waiting to be carved.

You won’t sacrifice taste for convenience! These rolls are light and fluffy, and are sure to be a delicious addition to your Thanksgiving table!

Sneak Peek

Normally we roll out a subscribers-only bonus recipe on Tuesdays, but Kelli is running something special over on her blog, and she talked me into making this week’s bonus recipe public. We’re also publishing it early, Monday night instead of Tuesday morning.

Soon, everybody will see the sort of recipe subscribers get every week. Of course, they’re not all as lengthy as this week’s Refrigerator Dinner Rolls, with 39 photos and detailed variations, but I think it’s typical of the style we normally publish. (A complete list is updated every week on the Members page.)

If you’re a subscriber to Seasonal Delights, pop over to Kelli’s blog to see her pre-Thanksgiving week of blogging. If you’re a visitor from Kelli’s blog, welcome to Seasonal Delights! In either case, we hope you have a very happy holiday, and if you’re from outside the United States, you’re welcome to express gratitude along with us!

Image Quality

I happened to load a new web browser today. I’ve got three different gmail accounts I use for different things (mine, Kelli’s, and the Seasonal Delights account), and so I need three browsers in order to have them all logged in at once. Switching all of the Seasonal Delights pages from Safari to Camino made me realize something awful: if you’re not using Safari on a Mac, most of the images on this site look dreadful.

Camino vs SafariI mean, really bad. Washed-out, colorless, awful. It makes me want to cry to think of how beautiful these images are, and how awful they look to most of you. Please, do yourself a favor: visit an Apple store to see how they should look! (Log out before you leave the store, please!)

The geek explanation is that most web browsers, even the current version of Firefox, don’t honor embedded ICC profiles. Only Safari does, though the next version of Firefox should. The sad part is that the difference is blindingly obvious, and yet I can’t even demonstrate it to you unless you’re on a Mac! There are pages on the web that attempt to demonstrate the issue, but most demonstrations are still somewhat subject to your computer’s settings. (If you’re not using Safari, you might actually prefer the image on the left, but, again, visit an Apple store and try it.)

I’m not sure what to do. I don’t think there’s anything I can do. My camera has been set correctly all along (sRGB, not Adobe RGB), and my Mac is set to the Windows-compatible 2.2 gamma setting with a D65 white point, but the problem is beyond that. The problem apparently affects PDF readers as well, so if you’re using Windows, you probably aren’t seeing the images properly, either.

I’m sorry. Firefox 3 ought to do things properly, and Safari for Windows does things properly already, but I know it’s hard to switch web browsers for just one site (though photos on other sites will also probably look better). Perhaps you could try Safari on Windows just once, to see what the pictures for the Recipe of the Week should look like?

Bonus: Gourmet Caramel Apples

We provide a new Recipe of the Week for subscribers every Tuesday morning, but sometimes we come up with something so special, we think it deserves “more.” A wider audience, a special focus, something. Gourmet Caramel Apples are one of those things. Many adults think of caramel apples as little more than a nuisance, a source of trouble with dentistry and messiness. Using the recipe in this guide, we’ve pleased adults (and children) by bringing a childhood delight back to life. Making them might be a bit messy, but eating them shouldn’t be!

For Seasonal Delights subscribers, the 12-page PDF guide is now available, free of charge. Subscribers also receive a $2 discount on printing. Details for subscribers are in the Forum.

If you are not yet a subscriber to Seasonal Delights, now would be a perfect time to join! However, if you’d like to just download this delicious guide to Gourmet Caramel Apples, you can do so via Lulu.com for $3.95. For a print copy of this fine guide with 62 delicious full-color photos, the non-subscriber price is $9.95. (Remember, subscribers get a $2 discount!)
