Red Velvet Cupcakes
Say “I love you” with these stunning red cupcakes this Valentine’s Day. A delicious cream cheese frosting is the perfect finishing touch!
Red Velvet Cupcakes
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups flour
1 ½ cups sugar
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
½ cup butter
1 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons red food coloring
Instructions:
- Gather ingredients. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line 18 muffin cups with cupcake papers.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Mix well.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat butter, buttermilk, and eggs until combined. Add the vinegar, vanilla, and red food coloring, and mix well.
- Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until smooth. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Remove cupcakes from pan and let cool completely before applying frosting.
Cream Cheese Frosting
Ingredients:
½ cup butter, softened
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups confectioner’s powdered sugar
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, beat butter, cream cheese, and vanilla until creamy. Gradually stir in powdered sugar, beating until smooth and fluffy.
- Using a knife, spread frosting over each completely cool cupcake, and add the valentine sprinkles of your choice.

Perfect, just perfect! I have all the ingredients except the buttermilk and cream cheese but that’s easy to resolve with a quick trip to the store.
I had not yet decided what to make in terms of sweets but this idea completes my menu. Thank you so much!

Hi, it’s me again. I just want to let you know I used your recipe to make the cupcakes which we delivered on heart-shaped trays to all our neighbors yesterday afternoon. Red velvet cake is very special to me.
