With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s not too late for a handmade gift for a special friend.
Victorian Fan Valentine
Materials:
Solid card stock (two complementing colors)
Patterned scrapbook paper
Letter stickers or marker
Thin ribbon or cording
Ribbon
Buttons
Tools:
Templates (55k .PDF file)
Scissors
Hole Punch
Glue
Instructions:
- Gather materials and tools. Choose a phrase and count the shapes that will be needed, one per letter. Trace “Back” and “Oval” templates onto solid card stock and “Front” template onto patterned scrapbook paper, then cut out all of the shapes. Cut out two extra pairs of “Front” and “Back” shapes, plus an extra pair for each space between words.
- Glue the “Front” shapes on top of the “Back” shapes, and the “Oval” shapes on top of the “Front” shapes. Add lettering using stickers or marker.
- Punch hole near the narrow end of each fan shape. Arrange shapes in order to spell out your chosen phrase. The “extra” fan shapes with no ovals go on each end.
- Thread pairs or clusters of buttons onto cording or thin ribbon, securing with a knot. Thread cording with buttons attached through the arranged fan shapes, then tie together.
- Add a ribbon bow, tying through punched holes.
