Pages 13-14 of the Autumn 2007 issue of Seasonal Delights featured a project called Autumn Hot Pads. Just in time for last-minute gifts, here are Christmas Hot Pads!

Christmas Hot Pads

Christmas Hot Pads

Materials:

Materials4 4½” squares of coordinating fabric: two patterned, two solid
8½” square of matching patterned fabric
8½” square of muslin
7″ square of cotton batting

Tools:

Scissors
Straight pins
Thread
Needle

Instructions:

  1. Gather your materials. Arrange 4 4½ squares in 2×2 alternating grid.

  1. Pin pair of small squares along one edge with right sides together. Sew pieces together along pinned edge using small stitches and a ¼” seam allowance. Press the seam toward the darker fabric. Repeat for other pair of small squares.

  1. Place panels right side together so that fabric patterns alternate and the center seam is aligned, then pin along one edge. Sew with ¼” seam allowance and press seam.

  1. Now you have an 8½” fabric panel to use as the top of a hot pad. Gather the rest of your materials and follow the instructions on pages 13-14 of the Autumn 2007 issue of Seasonal Delights!

  • What cute hot pads. I’m going to make some to use next year. My laptop is finally repaired and I’m playing catch-up on my blog reading. I’ve been having to make brief excursions on someone else’s computer to post my own blog entries. So, although I’m late discovering your Christmas banner and hot pads, they’ll be fun to do anyway.
