Christmas Banners

Usher in winter with a colorful banner!
Page 11 of the Autumn 2007 issue of Seasonal Delights featured a project called Autumn Banner. This week we’ll update that activity to highlight the Christmas holiday, making Christmas Banners!
Hang them around your house all season long, or display them for parties.
Christmas Banners
Materials:
Patterned scrapbook paper
Solid color card stock
Lettter stickers or marker
Ribbon
Glue
Tools:
Oval or circle templates, two sizes
Hole punch
Scissors
Instructions:
- Choose a phrase and count the shapes that will be needed; one per letter. Trace the larger shapes on the back of the scrapbook paper and the smaller shapes on the solid card stock, and cut all of the shapes out.
- Glue the smaller shapes atop the larger shapes and add letters using either stickers or writing with pen.
- Punch holes near the top of each assembled shape, then thread ribbon though each letter in order. Thread from front to back on one side, draw the ribbon across the back, and then pull forward through the opposite hole. Tack each end of the ribbon up to display the banner!

I love this idea! I’m looking around my house right now and my heart is full of joy in realizing that much of what we have that we cherish are those things we make ourselves. So each nook and cranny, each potholder and apron, and every pan that comes out of the oven and so on is something we value as we worked to create it.

I love making banners but I often have trouble getting them to stay put - they like to slide around! I’ll try the two hole method next time (I have an oval cutter and that will make it quick and easy!).
Blessings!
