Lulu Take 2

The first copy of the magazine delivered by Lulu was both thrilling and heart-crushing, at least for me. It was better than I’d feared, nearly perfect even. However, there was a problem with the areas featuring white text on the maroon background, as well as all the maroon text in the issue. Kelli and I talked about what to do, but there really wasn’t any other choice: this simply would not do.

Lulu Oops!I’ve spent a couple of days dealing with the helpful folks at Lulu, trying to figure out what went wrong. It seems their sensitive printers couldn’t handle some of the transparency effects we were generating, so we’ve had to involve several more applications, jumping through hoops here and there, all to produce a printed magazine that looks like it should. Attempt #2 was ordered this evening, so it will be some time yet before it is delivered. We really, really, really hope this one looks perfect, so we can make it available for all of you who want to hold a real, beautiful magazine in your hands!

In the meantime, we’ve got another project that didn’t quite fit into the Autumn 2007 issue of Seasonal Delights coming your way soon!

  • Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear this. I’m sure a resolution to the problem will eventually be worked out to give you the product you want to reflect your hard work.

  • I’m sure you’re right. They’ve been extremely helpful, bending over backwards to help. I’ve spent over three hours on help chats working through Acrobat options!

I’m tempted to just make the Lulu.com item available to the public, but I’m forcing myself to be patient and wait to make sure it’s as perfect as we can make it.

    Thanks!

  • I can’t wait for it to come out in print, what a treat!!
