Printing
As I’m sure is the case with most magazines, printing is the trickiest part. I’ve looked into dozens of options, and I have this feeling, this vague nagging sensation, that I’ve somehow overlooked the one that will solve all the problems. Sigh.
For now, for this first issue, it looks like the best bet for printing is going to be Lulu.com. I’m quite surprised to find this, but for the number of pages and the full-color requirement, their “brochure” option is cheaper by several dollars than any other place I’ve found. I was tempted this afternoon to run to my local Staples, as they quoted me a price more than seven dollars lower than OfficeMax and Fedex Kinko’s, but since Lulu.com undercuts Staples (before shipping, at least) and prints on nicer paper besides, I’ll be patient.
Of course, you’re free to print your own issue one page a a time, in color or monochrome, on any size or kind of paper you wish, or not at all. Still, I think we ought to have at least one copy of a finely-finished issue with which to reminisce.
Tomorrow is the big day! Delivery of printed copies will take longer, obviously, but it should be ready for download sometime on Labor Day.
